Review: MAC Paint Pot Painterly

I received a MAC Paint Pot a week ago which was send by Mitchin. Thank you so much for this product Mitchin ^_^! I had never used a paint pot before, but I had read lots of good reviews about it :) and it's time for me to try this product out. I'm using the paint pot for almost 2 weeks now and I have to say that I'm quite satisfied with it.
What is it?
On the MAC website it says that it's a highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colourfast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking. Blends smoothly over the lids. Cream-based, can be mixed with M·A·C shadows and liners.

What can you do with it?

You can use it as an eyeshadow base (a primer) or you can use it to even out your eyelid color. I'm using it as an eyeshadow base :).

Price
One paint post cost €18,50, which is quite expensive. I think that you can use it at least 8 months if you apply it every day, you don't need much when applying. This comes in many shades and it´s sold in all MAC stores.

Packaging
I like the simple packaging of MAC which is black and white. The cap is black and the cream is in a small glass pot. This product can dry out so you always have to put the cap back on or turn the bottle over on a surface to prevent it from air exposure.

Texture
It is creamy, matte but also a bit sticky. I usually apply it with my ring finger.

Amount
5 g / 0.17 fl oz

Color
The color of this paint pot is painterly, which is a nude beige color- its quite pale as you can see on my ring finger. It looks a bit orange on my hand but it matches the color of my eyelids xD. (My hands are a bit more pale than my face.)

With and without paint pot
This is a swatch of an eyeshadow with and without the MAC paint pot base. The one with the paint pot comes out more intense. It doesn't matter anymore if your eye shadows aren't pigmented enough ^^, just apply this as your base and the color will be more visible. (It doesn't matter which eyeshadow brand you use.)
Pros:
- Easy to apply
- Makes blending more easily
- Makes the eye shadow more vibrant
- Even works with cheap eye shadows
- Easy to remove with makeup remover
- Dries fast
- Lasts quite long even on my oily eyelids.

Cons:
- High price
- Not very hygienic to apply it with your finger all the time, I know that there is a special MAC brush for this, but I actually think that it will stick on the brush =S

Recommended? Yes!

  3. Ahh congrats on your first paint pot! =D Make sure you do use it as much as possible - they tend to dry out after a while! If you're concerned about the hygiene aspect you can just use a flat synthetic e/s brush, although my fingers are probably cleaner than my brushes (too lazy to wash brushes everday! Fingers on the other hand get washed many times a day, and ALWAYS before makeup application (and after)! =D

I LOVE how the paintpots make a nice base. I used to use bare study under my other eyeshadows, but now I'm too lazy because I just use UD primer potion and cant be bothered with another cream product before powder shadows.

  4. i've been lemming this :) i think it's sold at around 13-14 euros here, so it's not THAT bad for a primer...at least it's cheaper than UDPP and has more product :D hahaha

i'm interested in getting Bare Study, Painterly and Rubenesque :)

@Jian, thanks for the tips. UD primer potion seems to be good as well :) I'm using the too faced one and that one is fine on my eyelids as well ^_^.

@Jennifer, yeah, huh how come it's cheaper in hong kong o_O" usually it's more expensive there right? hmm,, anyways, i think it's just worth it because you can use it for a long long time :)

  13. Looks good! I already own MAC's Prep+Prime and a sample of their studio fix fluid foundation, I'm thinking of buying that one too. And when I'm in Amsterdam for shopping sometime in the future: paint pots and pigments are on my wishlist!
