I have to admit that I don't always follow the general guidelines. I can't throw a €25.- product away while it's still full and just because I've had it open for three months. Sadly, all makeup will eventually expire and at some products you will notice it yourself. You will especially notice that at products with natural ingredients, those will often expire sooner. Some people will find their old lipstick while cleaning their closet which they haven't used for 5 years. Would you use it or would you throw it away? My question to you is:
Do you follow the makeup expiration guidelines?
What is the shelf life of make up? How long can you keep lipstick, foundation or powder? Here is a general makeup expiration guideline:
- Lipstick: 2 years
- Lip gloss: 18-24 months
- Nail Color: 1 year
- Powder: 2 years
- Lip liner: 2 years
- Cream Eye shadow: 12-18 months Eyeliner: 2 years
- Liquid eyeliner: 3-6 months
- Cream Blush: 12-18 months
- Powder Eye shadow: 2 years
- Mascara: 3 months
- Blush and Bronzer: 2 years
- Oil-Free Foundation: 1 year
- Cream or Compact Foundation: 18 months
- Concealer: 12-18 months
ReplyDeleteI swear I never see the expiration dates anywhere on the packaging (LOL). Hm. I tend to throw away makeup items that I know I've been using after a year. I should probably start writing down the dates when I open new makeup.
ReplyDeletei agree, i swear there are no dates on my makeup!! where are they usually? and i only had any form of makeup for less than 3 months so i know they're all safe haha, it's good to know my eyeliners etc are still good for 2 yrs ^^ i would hate to buy expensive makeup and then have it expire!! and can nail polish really expire?? can u still wear it if the colour and liquid looks like sort of seperated?
ReplyDelete@Sam & Joan, hahah, dat doe ik ook xD tenzij het echt 3-4 jaar oud is ofso zal ik 'm niet gebruike haha
ReplyDelete@Michelle, hmmm.. depends on what it is.. usually there are expiration dates on creams, mascara and foundations.
ReplyDelete@hihihi, you probably haven't used your nail polish for a while if it's separate. You can just shake it very well and see if it's still good. Some nail polishes are still good after a good shake. Some might be harder to dry and they might be thicker than before. Always use a good base coat, people say that old nail polishes will damage your nails even more =/ (don't know if that's true). However, if the outcome isn't good or if it's clumpy, just throw the nail polish away, because it's just not good anymore.
ReplyDeleteI totally dislike thoughing away something that I haven't used much...very much dislike wasting XD But it's true that the expiration date is a good rule to follow .___.
ReplyDeleteermmm...I definitely don't follow the lipstick, nailpolish or eyeshadow expiration dates xD I'm pretty good with face makeup (aka foundation and concealer tho) since I tend to use all of it within a year :) I honestly dont get how you're supposed to finish a whole tube of lipstick and gloss in a year :\ I guess it's because i dont wear lip stuff everyday...I usually end up just losing lip stuff before I ever finish it ^^
yep i definitely chuck out a lot.. most for base makeup though and lip glosses. I've kept blushers and lipsticks lol
ReplyDeletebij mij is het vaak al op tegen de tijd dat het verlopen is XD
